The word amchigele strikes a instant cord in hearts of all our Saraswat Konkani speaking bretheren. Amchi means "Our" and gele means "people". So a hearty welcome to all "Our people".

We are the people who are said to be the descendents of Parashurama. As the legend goes Parashurama settled the Saraswats (inhabitants of Sarasawati River) by claiming the Konkan region from the sea. To this day you will find the community worship Nags (who were the original inhabitants of the Sea) in gratitude.

Most of the community members settled in Konkan majorly in and around Goa. Konkanis had to migrate to various regions for various reasons one of them beings religious persecution in times of Portuguese. But they were never far from the Sea and settled in coastal regions of present day Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala. Over time the customs, cuisines and the language gained and was enriched by interaction with the locals.
